| The
weather was grey and overcast last Sunday when 18
members joined Linda and Wendy at Hemyock for their 10
mile circuit of the Culm Valley. The very muddy tracks in
Culm Davy Wood were negotiated with some difficulty and
it was quite a relief to emerge onto the drier tracks of
the ridge above Blackdown Common. A tricky downhill
path took the group to a path which ran parallel to the
ridge before climbing again to Culmstock Beacon. Here a
brief lunch break was taken although the views were
not as far reaching as had been anticipated. Safely
down the steep slippery descent from the Beacon the next
obstacle was very boggy ground before reaching farmland
and the crossing of the River Culm. A brief drinks
stop was taken at the top of the final ascent to
Owleycombe Common where the walkers could look across
through the haze to the terrain covered earler. |
